Customers have for years discussed the different colors that older DUCATIs like the 900ss and 916 have exhibited. The 2-color Copper/Copper Edge decals have been all over the place. On some 916s we have seen the copper turn into a weird red/pink and people will swear that that is how they came from the factory. Our talks with multiple painters around the country who do restoration work on these DUCATIs all tend to agree that they didn’t come from the factory with pink hued decals, or other funky colors. Many things contribute to mismatch and color shift. Yellowing of clearcoat, UV degradation, decal manufacturer production variations, etc. The pics posted here show a 900ss with OEM factory original paint and clearcoated decals that the customers was needing to get repainted. So, we produced our decal set, sent them to the customer, and the customer noted that the colors didn’t exactly match (and they probably never will). Heck, talk to any painter and he will tell you that color matching one body panel to another without painting all panels is almost impossible. What we noticed is that the OEM decal on the left and right side are different. That is color mismatch from the factory! The customer never noticed it (you can’t see both sides at the same time) and it was just never an issue, until he needed replacement decals and he became overcritical. Once he understood all that, he got the panels repainted, used our decals, clearcoated them in, it looks absolutely factory again, and that’s the bottom line.
